A Leaking Shower Isn't Always a Tile or Grout Problem
The finished tile surface is only the outermost layer of a multi-component assembly. The symptom tells us where the problem became visible. It does not necessarily tell us where the water entered the assembly.
Plumbing
Failures at the drain connection or flange, supply-line plumbing, or the shower valve and associated plumbing behind the wall can allow water to escape into the surrounding structure.
Shower Pan & Drainage System
Problems involving the shower pan, drainage configuration, slope, or damaged water-management components can allow water to bypass the drain system and reach the subfloor and framing below.
Wall Waterproofing
Incomplete or improperly installed waterproofing behind the finished tile surface can allow water to penetrate into the wall assembly over time — often without producing obvious damage at the tile itself.
The Water May Show Up Somewhere Else
Water can travel through framing cavities, insulation, subfloor material, and adjacent building components before becoming visible. Where the homeowner sees the damage is not necessarily where the water entered the assembly.
A homeowner may notice a ceiling stain below an upstairs shower, wet drywall outside the bathroom, damaged flooring near the shower, or moisture at a baseboard — while the actual source is elsewhere in the shower or plumbing assembly.
Find the source before deciding what to repair.
Tile and grout condition alone are not sufficient to determine why a shower leaks. Fresh caulk does not correct a failed hidden water-management system. Diagnosis and evaluation come before deciding what must be repaired or replaced.

Address the Water Problem

When walls, flooring, shower components, cabinets, drywall, or other building materials have been removed or damaged, ParagonCA can carry the project through reconstruction to a finished, functional living space.
The Leak Is Stopped. Now What?
Sometimes a plumber has already stopped the leak. Sometimes a mitigation company has already dried the structure and removed damaged materials. The homeowner may then be left with open walls, removed flooring, demolished shower materials, missing baseboards, ceiling openings, or damaged bathroom finishes.
Stopping water and drying materials are not the same thing as reconstructing the home. ParagonCA can evaluate the remaining reconstruction and provide a path toward putting the affected areas back together.
